The city of London!!

As my birthday treat, my parents, cousin, and I spent the day in London, which was excellent, but extremely exhausting!

We left home at 9.30am, and drove to a town called Orpington, which is situated just outside of London! The train to Charing Cross was packed, and we had to stand the whole journey! Fortunately, it wasn't too far!!

Once we had arrived, we caught the Underground to South Kensington! Next, we walked up to the Natural History Museam, where we spent the majority of the day!!

It was free to enter the museam, but they caught you with the food prices, which were high! It was very interesting looking around the museam, and we even got to experience a real earthquake! It is very interactive there, plenty of things to touch, and press!!

At lunchtime, we ate a cheese and ham baguette, which was soft, and scrummy!

The next stop was Knightsbridge station, where we went to Harrods!! My dad was in a lot of pain, because he had an operation on his knee a few weeks ago, and it was tiring for him walking up all the underground steps!

At Harrods, there were protesters, protesting about fur! They had loud speakers, telling us we shouldn't go into Harrods, as they sell real fur!!

We managed to get lost in Harrods, and ended up looking at the watches and jewleery, worth thousads of pounds! There was a lot of perfumes on show, and I sprayed some on myself!! It wasn;t until afterwards that I realised it was men's cologne! 9they didn't make it clear on the box)!

The top picture is of my cousin Vivienne standing next to a Monkey at the Natural History Museam!
The one underneath is of the London eye, taken on the train!!

Wow, do you and your cousin ever resemble each other! My oh my! What a day! Re the cologne mix-up, my Mother-in-Law was getting ready for church a few years ago and somehow grabbed the wrong spray for fixing her hair! Instead of the stuff to hold it all in place she grabbed the bathroom air-freshener! Needless to say, she skipped Church that day -- she was simply wafting of Forest Pine!

Uh -- Louise, you can't possibly know how funny it was, after reading the descrip of your day, to see the innocent wee phrase: "so how r u?" Please do take care of your little self! Thems sounds like ugly girls! ugh-ly!

Now...re: the high food prices. Speaking as a Foodie who has had to make money with food at various times in her life..Business is business, and everything in London costs money. It takes time to buy and prepare the food, to rent the place that you sell it in, to pay wages and then to go home to live in a place that you have to pay most likely London or near London prices...therefore, like everything else, food is likely to cost a little bit more than other places. So really, it is NOT expensive if you put it into perspective...and after all, it is a day out - with treats. Hello, it beats dragging sandwiches around on your back all day, only to discover that either the meat or the mayo has gone bad and you end up with food poisening and thne have to go to the hospital and discover that you have to take some special pills that are not covered by the NHS - for the rest of your life. Plus because you get sick in an emergency you have to have a special ambulance take you to a special hospital and pay the congestion charges because of being a nuisance - imagine the cost of all that...Now, THAT is expensive. Remeber that the next time you have to fork our a few pounds for 'lunchin' in London!!!!!
Love, Auntie Rebecca
